Helen of Troy is all I can remember when the name Troy is mentioned anywhere. Maybe I have an eye for beauty, or maybe I just love History. However, you too would remember her, if you knew a bit about Helen. Apart from the Trojan horse, she is the best thing to ever have happened to Troy.
The ancient city of Troy is known as the center of ancient civilizations and existed over 4000 years ago.  The city is also called Ilium in Latin or Ilion. It had 9 separate cities and 47 different levels of habitations. These layers represented the different periods present in the Eastern Civilization and cultural evolution history. It was both a legendary and factual city located in the northwest Anatolia present day Turkey.
The first excavation of the ancient city of Troy was in 1863. The excavation attached the high artificial mound that was not touched since antiquity. It is told that there erupted war of the Greeks against the Trojans as a result of the kidnapping of Agamemnon’s wife by Paris, Troy’s prince. Helen was the wife’s name. This war lasted more than ten years until the time the Greeks used deception into defeating the Trojans.
The deception used was a form of a gift statue horse. The statue horse held the Greeks warriors inside. The ancient city of Troy was surrounded by great walls that were impossible for the Greeks to pass. With the horse statue as a gift, they were able to convince the Trojans to open the gates. The rest, as they say, is history.  This war was the single most significant event during the Mycenaean Age.
It is not clearly stated the actual language spoken in the ancient city of Troy.  However some of the Trojan inhabitants were believed to have understood some of the Greek language. Despite the fact that this ancient city of Troy was discovered over hundred years ago, the present day researchers are still making amazing new discoveries with their excavation activities. Lesson: beware of Greeks bearing gifts! Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
