When you mention the great explorers, there are several names which will come to your mind. However, the thing is that while many have their own criteria for naming them or for placing them in order of preference, there has never been a completely accepted list for this. Nevertheless, we are going to make a random pick according to no particular criteria.
When it comes to Marco Polo, transportation and movements have been a very big Avenue in the development and integration of the world and the making of great adventurous movements, and travels can be traced in history to the named explorer. The good thing about him is that he inspired many explorers who came after him. Though his father was an ancient merchant who had dealings with the Middle East, Marco polo made more adventures than him. His father came back to meet him 15 years after his birth, and at this young age, embarked on a long journey with him and his uncle Mateo. Their main adventure was the journey that took them to Cathay, China.  This journey took Marco polo and his father through Armenia, Persia, Afghanistan and the Pamir mountains. They also passed through the Silk Road, Taklimakan, Gobi desert and Cambaluc (Beijing). He remained in China and held some government political posts. He later returned to Venice, joined the army, was captured and wrote the travels of Marco polo while in prison.

Sir Edmund Hillary did something many people thought was impossible, and this was climbing Mount Everest for the first time. He is a New Zealand graduate of Mathematics and Science, who later turned a beekeeper. He used his spare time in climbing peaks, and this was given a celebrity status when he joined the British attempt in climbing the Everest. They were paired into different groups. However, the other pair Bourdillion and Evans got exhausted on the way and got back. Hillary motivated his mate Norgay, and they started their expedition to reach the summit of Everest two days after Bourdillion and Evans failed. After two days of their journey, they got to the peak of the mountain, with Hillary being the first to get to the peak. They took images of themselves at the top of the mountain, mounted a cross and also buried a sweet as memorials.
Neil Armstrong had a knack for airplanes right from his childhood, and this made him to make a lot of experiments to this effect. He was later called to active military duty as a pilot while he was in Purdue University.  After several failed attempts, Armstrong and two other colleagues named Michael Collins and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin started off to the moon on July 16 1969. After four days of flying, they landed on the moon, with Armstrong as the first to step on the moon by 10:56pm on the 20th of July. They stayed two hours on the moon and collected samples of rock and soil.
