Welcome to the World of PROFESseeby seeCOSM™

PROFESsee is my title. I am the perpetual learner, in pursuit of knowledge, wisdom and truth. I derived my name from professor
Dormitories form a very big part of student’s life on campus and I’m sure you can relate as well. All those fun outings, the interactions, banter and competition just adds spice to the experience. Dorm life affects the social life on campus and student’s performance. According to a study by Pedro de Araujo and James Murray, they found that staying on campus improves performance. In their own words, they reported that “…that living on campus increases GPA by between 0.19 and 0.97.” (Bummer! I must have been helpless – didn’t help me though) It is no wonder schools try to offer the best facilities on campus to ease social integration and aid the student’s performance. This is not different for the administration of the American University of Beirut.
Perhaps due to its conservative roots, there aren’t any co-existing halls or dorms (I hear you changing your mind about your graduate studies now) in the school. What you have are separate halls for the two genders. In total, there are 8 residential dorms or halls as they are called in the America University of Beirut. Surprisingly, women occupy six of the residential halls, leaving the boys with just two halls (I’m happy for the boys that get in). The halls are Kerr I and Penrose Halls for the guys and Kerr II, Murex, Jawett, Boustany, New Women’s Dorm and the AUB dorm on Sidani Street.
With 7 floors and 17 rooms per floor, the Kerr 1 hall is the biggest of them hall. Two apartment types are available – semi-private units for three with their own bathroom and mini kitchen and double rooms with a shared communal bathroom per floor. The Penrose and AUB dorm on Sidani Street are next with about 100 rooms each. The AUB dorm on Sidani Street with 11 floors and 7-12 rooms per floor has double and private rooms, suites with all having their own bathrooms; handy for those who are very private.
Penrose Halls for the guys is relatively more intrusive than AUB dorm on Sidani but still not as open as the communal bathroom obtained in the Kerr I Hall. Penrose Hall houses 6 floors and 18-24 rooms per floor, with two types of apartment obtainable – semi-private units (2 rooms, each with their bathrooms) and double rooms (4 rooms with 2 bathrooms).
Four of the women’s dorms have communal bathrooms – Kerr II, Jewett, Boustany and Murex Halls, even though they all offer semi-private rooms with the exception of Kerr II Hall, which only has the double rooms sharing a communal bathroom per floor.
